Ultrasound Intensive: Fine Tuning Your Sonography Skills

This workshop will facilitate fine tuning scanning skills of medical professionals in the PMC setting. A variety of methods will be used to advance knowledge and sharpen skills in sonography including scanning protocols review, images critique, case studies, demonstration of techniques to improve scanning and obtaining excellent diagnostic quality images.

This workshop is designed for intermediate nurse sonographers. It will cover basic landmarks and good imaging parameters. The primary focus will be on enhancing and sharpening observational skills that will assist in deciphering perplexing images that are encountered during pelvic and obstetrical ultrasound exams.
After participating in this workshop, nurse sonographers will better be able to:
- Recognize anatomic landmarks in the female pelvis on ultrasound examination
- Understand the factors involved in obtaining optimal images during ultrasound examinations
- Learn techniques and strategies for interpreting unfamiliar or unusual images
- Test their recognition and identification skills after being exposed to a series of images

This workshop will assist medical professionals during the ultrasound visit to enhance client education and support by taking a holistic approach that seeks to address key aspects of the pregnant client’s physical, emotional/relational, and spiritual needs. The following areas will be addressed: fetal development education using the ultrasound exam & tablet app; key client relationships: engaging the father of the baby; spirituality and health; recognizing & supporting the sex trafficked client.
Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Trimesters

This workshop will include a review of imaging basics and optimization, along with an in-depth “how to” conduct a limited OB ultrasound in all three trimesters. This is an intermediate to advanced level workshop geared towards the nurse sonographer. Participants will learn the importance of being equipped to perform scans in the second and third trimesters, and how to do this in a way that limits liability. The workshop will cover practical tips for capturing and documenting the necessary images.
