ABORTION RECOVERY
In the Name of Love: How Elective Abortion Can Impact Intimate Relationships
Vincent M. Rue, Ph.D., Rue & Stanford Rue Consulting, Inc.
Research on the mental health risks of elective abortion has generally focused on women, and to a lesser extent, their male partners. This presentation will briefly review that body of psychological science. Long neglected has been the impact of elective abortion on the relationship context of an unanticipated pregnancy. Issues addressed in this presentation will include: the relational nature of abortion, preabortion decision-making and post abortion relationship impact, gender differences in post abortion coping, and alterations in communication, sexuality and spirituality.
